   Tom Low received his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. Afterwards, he gained ten years of professional experience in architecture practice in Charlotte, North Carolina before attending the University of Miami for a Master in Architecture with a specialization in Suburb and Town Design. A s a student, he completed research grants on early twentieth-century town centers, and the "Traditional Neighborhood Development Ordinance," a trademark of Duany Plater-Zyberk & Com. and a crucial element in the firm's principles. Since that time, Tom has managed and completed over seven dozen project sit he Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company.

   In 1995, Tom opened an office in Charlotte, North Carolina for Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, and is actively involved with projects, research, and education within the region. Tom lectures on town planning, has taught at the University of Miami School of Architecture, and has been a Visiting Professor at the University of North Carolina CHarlotte School of Architecture, the College of Charleston, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Sate University. Through grants he received from the John Nolen Foundation he recently planned a symposium on John Nolen's work in the southeast and is currently working on a book on John Nolen's planning techniques.

   Tom recently attended the Mississippi Renewal Forum as a Planning Coordinator, and also attended several planning workshops responding tot he destruction of Hurricane Andrew. He participated in redesign charrettes in South Dade County and Florida City, and also volunteered for Dade County, aiding with door-to-door damage assessments.
