   Patrick Pinnell is an architect, planner, author and architectural educator, with his office in the Hartford, Connecticut area. Current architectural work includes houses in New York, Michigan, Florida, California and Connecticut. Recent urban-scale projects include participation in the planning of Hartford's downtown and region, co-leading the urban design team for the Save Fenway Park effort in Boston, a design code in Malibu, California, and work with Duany / Plater-Zyberk of Miami on a number of new developments around the country. Pinnell served until recently as vice-chair of the Hartford Parking Authority.

   Pat formerly headed Yale's graduate research program in Environmental Design, and taught design studio and architectural theory classes in the School of Architecture there from 1981 until 1998. For twelve years, before moving to Connecticut in 1989, his practice (Cass & Pinnell Architects) was based in Washington, D.C. The firm’s many award-winning buildings included houses for members of the U.S. Senate and a church for a minority congregation in Northeast Washington. He has taught and lectured at many American architectural schools and organizations as well as in Europe and Japan.

   A member of the Congress for the New Urbanism, Patrick has long-standing interest and experience in housing and town planning issues, and his completed buildings include a social housing tower in an historic district of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Publications have included articles on the new towns of Seaside, Florida and Kentlands, Maryland, on the early work of Frank Lloyd Wright, and various issues in the theory of architecture and urbanism. He writes commentary on development issues periodically for the Hartford Courant. His book on the architecture and historic planning of the Yale University campus was published in 1999 by Princeton Architectural Press. Other historically-connected recent work includes participation in drafting a new Master Plan for Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, and renovating historic Sprague Hall for the Yale School of Music. Pinnell lives in a two century old house in the historic Connecticut River town of Higganum with his wife, architectural historian Kathleen Curran.
