   Steven W. Semes is principal of his own firm in New York City and a Fellow of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America, where he is Chairman of the Publications Committee. Mr. Semes writes and lectures frequently on classical architecture and design. He is the author of The Architecture of the Classical Interior (W. W. Norton & Co., 2004) and a contributor to The Elements of Classical Architecture (W. W. Norton, 2001). His articles have appeared in Traditional Building, Period Homes, and the American Arts Quarterly. A native of Coral Gables, Florida, Mr. Semes received his architectural degrees from the University of Virginia and Columbia University. His professional work has included tenure at the Preservation Programs branch of the National Park Service in Washington, D.C., and the architectural firms of Johnson/Burgee Architects and Cooper, Robertson & Partners, both in New York. In 1999, he launched his own practice, Steven W. Semes, Architect, specializing in new traditional and classical public and residential work. In the fall of 2005, Mr. Semes will assume his new position as the Francis Rooney Professor of Design and Theory at the Notre Dame University School of Architecture in Notre Dame, Indiana, while continuing his practice in both New York and South Bend, Indiana.
