Ben is the Senior Director for the Prince’s Foundation for Building Community where he is responsible for overseeing design output for the charity and its subsidiary company Community Capital.  Work includes pure and applied research, urban and architectural projects as well as post education and communication.  

Research projects have included Planning Healthcare Infrastructure and Design Briefing for Hospitals funded by the Department of Health.  Applied research projects have included the construction of a pair of low carbon dwellings called the Natural House at the Building Research Establishment.  Ben has led over 40 collaborative design exercises for projects ranging in scale from a new regional strategy for the Swansea Bay area in Wales (a new town for 13,000 people, a new University for 5,000 students and two demonstration sites), a 50 year City regeneration framework for Lincoln to a sustainability strategy for new housing in the Galapagos Islands.

Current teaching duties include running the Prince’s Rebuilding Communities crafts scheme in New Orleans, running the Placemaking unit of the joint MsC in Sustainable Development at Oxford University and teaching on the UK crafts apprenticeship scheme and Graduate Fellowship Programme at the Foundation.

Ben is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Architecture Club, an Academician of the Academy of Urbanism, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and board member of Stroma consulting.
